Newton's Cradle with Our Soar Reader Mrs. McTague
Mrs. McTague came to visit our class today and teach us a little bit about herself. She is one of our SOAR readers that will be reading with the children this year. Mrs. McTague was a physics teacher before she retired. She enjoys bringing her Newton's Cradle to teach the students a little bit about physics and her background. Thank you Mrs. McTague.

Fluency Fun with Readers Theater

Keeping Movin' in Second Grade!
We try to do at least one dance a day for a movement break. We also do other songs, chants and rhythm claps. Are you alert, alive, enthusiastic?! Today, we learned the "Bucking Bronco" movement! That one was tricky to photograph so you are seeing our class dance.

Our CAFE Board is Up and Running!
Students are beginning to work on their individual reading goals carefully selected from our CAFE board. Students can focus on C-comprehension, A-accuracy, F-fluency or E-expanding vocabulary. You should have received the "Parent pipeline" information sheet that matches your individual child's goal. During our small group instruction or individual reading conferences, students will be working on mastering their strategy to help themselves become better readers. Once the strategy is mastered, a new one will be selected. We are building stronger readers one strategy at a time!
Earning Woodward Bucks
Students can use the computer to take short, multiple choice quizzes on paperback books that they've independently read. If they score a 70% or higher, they score a Woodward buck. I score because I can quickly check their understanding of their independent reading book.

Seeing Great Results with Xtramath
We have been utilizing the website xtramath.org in class since September. Students are very excited to be "Beating the Teacher" with their math facts. Parents can register to see their individual child's results at home. Students can also practice at home too! This is a great way for your child to develop fact fluency. Let me know if you need help registering.
