Subtracting With the Algorithm is Here!

We are starting to learn the traditional paper and pencil subtraction algorithm. The students are visually seeing it with the place value blocks and the written form of regrouping. We will be working on this for the next few weeks. "Bottom bigger borrow" will soon become one of our favorite phrases! 

Book Clubs Are Up and Running!

Our first book club kicked off today. We are discussing Cactus Hotel by Brenda Guiberson. The kids are excited to share their "two cents". We use the pennies to help us monitor our participation. It was a wonderful meeting today!

Paragraph Work During Impact

My impact group is working on writing an organized and clear paragraph. Today we started with a bucket of school supplies. They were in charge of sorting out the "stuff" and creating groups (main ideas). Here are some photos of us working on organizing our details with the expository pillar graphic organizer. We are also beginning to set up for our individual paragraphs.
