Science Program on Weather

LINK brought a science program in for the second graders today. Our program focused on the weather. The students participated in various experiments and activities about different aspects of weather. A hand out came home today about the program and an experiment for students to try at home if they wanted. Thank you LINK for this awesome opportunity. We had a blast!

Flower Power with My Little Helper

Chloe and I were busy this weekend crafting flowers for window decorations. Despite our snow globe getting shaken again, there will be spring flowers going up this week at Berlin Memorial. Yippee!

Bottom Bigger Borrow!

We are close to wrapping up our unit on THREE digit subtraction. The children have learned key phrases like "Bottom bigger borrow", "Go next door, get 10 more", "More on the top, no need to stop" and "Number's the same, zero's the game". These phrases are used throughout the subtraction process. For a little fun, have your child show you how we use the phrases to subtract. Now we just need a dance to go with it ;)!
The photo below shows how we also use place value blocks to help us understand the process of subtracting and borrowing.

We Heard Back!

The children were so excited to see that Damion's letter to Pump It Up was answered. About a month ago, the children wrote letters expressing their opinions and ideas for change. Most of our letters have received responses. This was a fun way to learn about writing opinion pieces especially in the real world!

Thank You Link!

Our class won Link's box top contest. Our prize was an indoor recess game. The class decided to expand our indoor recess hallway obstacle course. 12! Hula hoops became our prize. This is half of the course we put together for yesterday's rainy indoor recess. The second and first graders had a blast. Link thank you for all you do to enrich our kids' lives!

Animal Projects!

The students wrote reports about animals that interested them. Students used books and the Internet to research their animal. Each student wrote a four paragraph report about the animal's anatomy, diet, habitat and predators. After the reports were written, students created a poster to share their information. Despite the snow days, the projects are finally finished! Take a peek!
