More Playground Pictures

1,000 DOJO Points!!!

We set various DOJO goals throughout the month. This time we were aiming for 1,000 DOJO points. To reward all of our hard work at hitting our goal, we went over to the playground across the street as a class for our recess. I am always impressed with how they all play together so nicely at recess. The kids were all trying to use different pieces of the playground equipment and cheering each other on. We decided that this would be another great goal prize! Hard work pays off!

The Show is Getting Closer

We had our dress rehearsal today. One of the students asked if we would all have to wear dresses! These kids make me laugh, such fun and excitement is in the air!

Pumpkin Experiment

We are learning about Earth's surface in science. To help us understand how humans can affect the Earth's surface with trash, we are performing an experiment on items that decompose quickly and not so quickly. We stuffed an old jack-o-lantern with trash today and made predictions. Some children think the pumpkin will be really smelly when we dig it up in April. Others think it is going to turn brown and the trash will stink. Just a couple students thought the pumpkin will disappear into the soil but the trash will be left behind. (I wish I had taken a picture of the pumpkin BEFORE we buried it. It was full of plastic baggies, a plastic Pringles container, left over goldfish snack and wet paper towels.)

Presidential Voting with a Few Book Characters

The kindergarten through third grade students participated in a mock election for president. We read the three books: Grace for President, Splat the Cat for President and Clifford for President. Today, the students were able to feel what it was like to participate in an election as a registered voter. The booths were set up and they even had to check in to receive their ballots. It was a lot of learning and fun. Clifford was our big winner today with 50 votes!
The second grade students counted the ballets and tallied the results.
