Maker Space DOJO Goal party!

We had to bring the Maker Space to us last week. Here are just a couple pictures of what we were creating and inventing.

Working With Rubrics

As the year progresses, students are learning more and more about the expectations for quality work. This will help them become more responsible for their learning and how to grow as a learner. Together, we graded my examples for journal responses. Our poster shows some of our work to learn more about second grade expectations.

Outdoor Recess Fun

There may not be a lot of snow but we have our very own Berlin Memorial mountain. :)

Subtracting With Regrouping - Here We Come!

I hope you can see all of the green blocks in the photographs. Those are the blocks that we use for teaching regrouping - breaking the ten into ten ones. When we subtract, we use a couple phrases to help us remember. "More on the floor, go next door, get ten more." "More on top, no need to stop."

Fun Times in Second Grade

"Fine Dining" for our lucky ticket winner and his three friends.
Camper of the Week Luncheon!
We are working on our annual "Valentines for Veterans" project. The entire school makes valentines for the veterans. They are mailed out to various veteran organizations throughout Massachusetts.

Congratulations Anthony

100% Fluent!

Congratulations to Robert for becoming 100% fluent. He is holding the special "gold" bead for his "Badges of Honor" necklace. Hard work pays off!

Mystery Reader Time!

Thank you, Mrs. Fallon, for coming to read Sadie the Air Mail Pilot to the class. Everyone loved the book!
If you would like to sign up as a mystery reader, please contact me. I have a few spring time openings and I know all of the kids would love to have a special family member or friend visit our classroom.

Partner Reading Fun

We have been working on building our reading fluency with these partner reading books called "Girlz Rock" and "Boyz Rule". The books are like play scripts for two. Everyone is enjoying reading to a partner.

The After School Program is Still Collecting!

If you haven't had a chance to send in some spare change, you have until the end of the month. The money is being sent to St. Jude's Hospital for children as part of their "Pennies for Patients" fundraiser. There is even a Boylston business that is matching our school's collection.

Yipee! 100% Fluent

Congratulations Eddy for becoming 100% Fluent! Your hard work has paid off!

Mystery Reader

Thank you Mr. Foley for being our Mystery Reader this week. The kids enjoyed the book, If I Built a Car

Fine Dining!

Congratulations to Avery! He won the SOAR ticket raffle and invited three friends for fine dining in the cafeteria. Yes, that is a plastic candle on the table! Fine dining is a big hit at BMS.

Can you solve this one?

We have been very busy working on how to subtract using the open number line. Today, we looked at three different open number lines to figure out which one is the correct model for the problem. Did you figure it out? (answer is C)
