Science Fun with Mrs.Hainey

In Enrichment, students are learning about the different properties of objects. Their challenge was to create a waterproof"ish" bridge that could hold 6 blocks. We had a lot of fun testing these super bridges out.

They DISAPPEARED!

Today was the big pumpkin reveal! Last November, we started our pumpkin experiment. We filled some empty pumpkins with trash, left some pumpkins empty,  and even buried a whole pumpkin. Well.... today's reveal showed that all of the buried pumpkins have disappeared! The plastic trash was left behind in the soil because it didn't compost. You should ask your child about the yogurt container! Composting came to life today!

We also conducted another experiment with a pumpkin in a plastic bag. We left one pumpkin in a plastic bag all winter. We found some small pumpkin pieces with "red wiggler" worms doing some serious vermicomposting today.
Where did our pumpkin go?!

Mystery Reader Fun!

Thank you, Mrs. Foley, for being our mystery reader. The students enjoyed reading, The Great Kapok Tree, by Lynne Cherry. The Kapok tree is native to the tropical rain forests so this helped us have a better understanding of this special habitat.

Congratulations Avery!

Mr. Campbell was thrilled to congratulate our newest 100% fluent math master in second grade! Hard work pays off!

Tropical Rain Forest Habitat

After learning about the different types of rain forests, the class created a mural of a tropical rain forest. It shows the different layers as well as the many animals and plants that are native to tropical rain forests.
